Embrace and Celebrate God's Gift of True Thankfulness
A blessed Thanksgiving to you and your family!
God has blessed my perspective of thankfulness with this account of the 10 lepers being healed by Jesus and only one returning to thank him. Listening to God in his Word gives families the truth of how much our Jesus loves us. His love creates thankfulness in our hearts. I’m sharing a few devotional thoughts as I ponder this text and a framework for a conversation starter for your family this Thanksgiving. God’s blessings in Jesus to each one of you!
One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him – and he was a Samaritan.
Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”
Luke 17: 15-19
This story makes me appreciate what thankfulness is. This Thanksgiving is a great time for families to share together what God has done for us, how he has helped us in our struggles, how he has rescued us from our weaknesses, how he has healed us from the guilt and slavery of our sin.
Thanksgiving family conversation starter based on Luke 17:11-19
What do you think the leper was thinking when he worshiped Jesus?
What weaknesses and struggles has God rescued you from? How does he help you when you feel alone or scared or guilty?
Talk about how the life, death and resurrection of Jesus gives us true thankfulness no matter what our circumstances are.
Talk to God together as a family about what he means to you.
